Green IT Award 2010

English

The Green IT Award

The concepts with Best Practice potential, i.e. which could achieve the broadest possible effect were rewarded. Furthermore, as feedback, the solutions were supposed to attract the attention of manufacturers in the IT sector. This can lead to suppliers adopting such ideas and entries in their product portfolios and, in turn, to an optimized spreading and advancement of innovative green IT solutions.

The competition was focused on the resource- and energy-efficient operation of computer centers – even today this remains an area with a substantial potential for the reduction of CO2 emissions and the associated costs.

Category Energy-efficient IT-systems

In this category, solutions are rewarded that optimize the energy-efficiency of computer centers by employing known or new technologies, or innovative combinations of both.

The Jury

A round of five highly rated experts (companies that utilize such technologies, planners, and manufacturers) from the scientific and the economic communities evaluated the entries.

Dr. Hans-Joachim Popp (CIO Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt [German Aerospace Center) agreed to head the jury. Further participating jurors were MR Rudolf Herlitze (CIO Federal Environmental Department), Heinrich Vaske (Chief editor Computerwoche), Thomas Schott (CIO Rehau AG), and Dr. Jürgen Sturm (CIO BSH Bosch und Siemens Hausgeräte GmbH.

Next to GeoCool, global players like SAP, T-Systems International, Dachser GmbH & Co. KG, and Strato were nominated for the Green IT Award 2010
